Picture this: waking up from a long and peaceful night’s sleep in your freshly cleaned sheets and comforter. You wake up, relaxed, and head to the bathroom. Your chest is a bit itchy so you go to scratch it and as you pass the mirror…. OH NO WHAT IS THAT??
There is nothing worse than realizing the new laundry detergent or fabric softener you just bought made you break out into an allergic reaction. There is basically nothing you can do about it other than get rid of the likely detergent and lather on the anti-histamine cream.
Now there are many things that can cause allergic reactions in beds. This is debilitating to anyone trying to get a good night’s sleep and is just plain uncomfortable! Now here are some tips to help you allergy-proof your bed and have an itch-free slumber.
Figure out the culprit!
Ok, it’s obvious we know, but the most important thing to do first is find out what is causing you too have the itchy scratchies. Now it can be a few different things:
1. The detergent or fabric softener you used. Discontinue and use a hyper-allergenic one. If that works you got your answer.
2. The down in your pillow or comforter. A lot of people have down feather allergies. Either ask your doc. to run tests or discontinue the use of the goose and see what happens. Now obviously if the allergies stop after you get rid of that big soft comforter you love so much, then find one that is similar but hypo-allergenic. Many suitable options are available at linen stores.
3. If these two things are not the root of the red and itchy problem, then think about what is a new addition to your bed or bedroom. Did you get new pajamas? Do you have a new stuffed animal on your bed? Did you get a new dog or just started to allow them on the bed? All of these can be root problems and it’s important to wean them off one at a time so you can find the problem.
We hope this works for you because allergies can really be a hassle. The good thing is, when you figure out what is causing the reaction the solution is simple. By simply halting the use of the culprit, your fresh, clean, and ITCH FREE nights will be back before you know it.
