We all know the saying, “men are from Mars, women are from Venus.” We realize that although we all may walk among each other on a daily basis, men and women seem to be living on two completely different planets… having two different languages, feelings, and outlooks. With these differences innate to men and women, it is only reasonable to assume we have different sleep patterns as well! And if you sleep with a partner of the opposite sex you know that differences can be very frustrating and annoying. Here are some tips to dealing with the unbalanced nature of men and women’s sleeping patterns.
1) Tick Tock, Tock Tick
Now if you and your man or woman, don’t seem to mesh well in your sleeping patterns, then don’t blame each other. Realize that it may just be a biological difference in the way men and women are wired. Men and women have two very different biological clocks that do NOT seem to tick in sync. This can in turn cause different problems in sleep. We don’t know how or why the difference in sleep occurs but women for instance are two-three more likely to suffer from insomnia according to WebMD and men are twice as likely to have sleep apnea which causes loud snoring and frequent disturbances in sleep. Bottom line is, our bodies are built different and therefore our sleep issues will differ.
2) Work out a plan
Now if your spouse is an early riser and you sleep in, then it might annoy you when the souse wakes up early to get dressed, disturbing your deep slumber. If you have a problem getting back to sleep when woken up, ask your partner to get ready in another room or bathroom that won’t disturb anyone. That way you are not awakened too early. Your partner can wake up as early as they please and you can get a few more hours of shut eye.
3) If there is a problem, fix it!!
Now it is obvious that one partner’s sleeping problem is almost just as much the other’s problem as well. Chances are if one of you is restless, the other one will be too. On the other hand, if the other person sleeps great through the tossing and turning of the other partner then resentment for the splendid slumber will build but which is NOT good. Therefore, if one of you is having trouble sleeping, see a doctor ASAP! It may be a problem that can be fixed through either medicine or consulting. It is just important you find out what it is and how to remedy the issue.
Although the specific differences of sleeping patterns between men and women may not be proven, we do sense a definite drift between the two sexes. So whether your man is a snorer or your woman is a night owl, follow these tips to ensure a happy union after dark.
